Cloud for Good is looking for a Payroll & HR Specialist to join our growing People, Finance & Operations team. This role will work and partner to support 2 departments under the PFO umbrella – HR and Finance. The role will report to the Payroll Lead on the Finance Team .
You will be successful in this role if you are an individual that is passionate about payroll and HR efficiencies that support streamlining and automating processes to ensure the organization can scale.
Location: Remote with regular on-site responsibilities in Toronto, Ontario.
Work Authorization: Citizens or Permanent Residents of USA or Canada. Cannot provide Visa sponsorship
Main Responsibilities:
Payroll Activities:
- Process semi-monthly, multi-state payroll on a 24-pay period cycle for 200+ US employees and 100+ Canadian employee through ADP Workforce Now
- Ensure payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, garnishments, and others are accurate before processing payroll
- Manage the funding of payroll withholdings such as (retirement programs, flexible spending accounts, etc.)
- Process variable compensation, stipends, reimbursement, and other expense payments as necessary
- Prepare journal entries on a global scale for payroll and benefits
- Partner with the Financial Controller for G/L, reconciliations related to payroll, payroll funding, and taxes
- Troubleshoot issues with payroll and time off programs as necessary
- Answer employee questions as they relate to payroll, all recorded compensation as well as time off and other questions as asked
- Recommend corrective action or process improvement where necessary
- Prepare and manage financial reports as needed
- Liaison for US 401K Plan Financial Audit under supervision of Financial Controller
HR Activities:
- Maintain ADP Workforce Now as it relates to employee data for onboarding, offboarding, and status changes
- Process salary updates and changes within the ADP Workforce Now
- Manage the onboarding process, such as background checks and I9 verification
- Respond to employment verification and wage history requests
- Partner with HR to ensure compliance with employment, benefits, insurance, safety, and other laws, regulations, and requirements
- Generate a variety of ad hoc and recurring HR reports, research and analyze data for reports, surveys, and budgeting process
- Other duties as assigned
Cross functional Activities:
- Support audit activities as necessary. For example, audits could be driven by internal or external needs such taxes, workers comp., etc.
- Effectively collaborate with ADP Workforce Now and for resolution on payroll tax and other compliance solutions
Administrative & Office Coordination
- Support office administrative needs and on-site coordination in the Toronto office, twice a week
Requirements:
- Understanding of compensation and benefits programs
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
- Proficiency with HRIS and payroll systems, Salesforce, and Outlook products
- Knowledge of wage garnishments, child support deductions, and complying with court orders
- Understanding of pre-tax and post-tax benefits
- Knowledge of U.S. federal and state employment, wage and hour, and payroll tax laws (including FLSA compliance)
- Knowledge of Canadian payroll, tax, and employment regulations

- Travel Requirements
- This role requires regular in-person attendance at our Toronto office several times per week to support team collaboration and business operations. Additionally, business travel, both domestic and international, may be required based on project, client, and company needs, including participation in company onsite events. The amount of business travel will vary by role but is generally expected to be up to 30% annually. Travel is considered an essential part of this position and supports effective client engagement, collaboration, and company representation.

Collaboration takes place across Zoom, Office 365, Salesforce, and Slack during standard business hours (9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. in your local time zone).
