There are a number of other places where you should spend time configuring Salesforce to improve your users’ experience. Showing key information to your users when and where they need to see it will not only make things easier, but will improve data integrity as you provide the information they need to select the appropriate records.

The NPSP 3.0 is a set of managed packages installed on Salesforce to customize the platform for some common nonprofit use cases. It is the most current version of the Nonprofit Starter Pack, and it has some key improvements and new features compared to the previous version, the NPSP 2.0. A key feature of the NPSP 3.0 is that it automatically receives updates from the Salesforce Foundation, meaning that new functionality is added to your instance without needing to install new packages. Furthermore, the older NPSP packages are no longer supported by the Salesforce Foundation and no longer receive updates. Upgrading to the NPSP 3.0 means your package will remain current and as new features are released to improve the user experience, you will receive them!

It doesn’t matter if8ixn547AT you have 100 records or 1 million records, the data import phase of a project can seem like a daunting task. It’s kind of like moving a 5 bedroom house. There’s extracting the data from your old system, or gathering it from various places it may live. There’s prepping it for import by removing duplicates and making sure that email and phone number fields are formatted properly. And let’s not forget figuring out what pieces of data you actually want to bring over into the new system. Once these steps are completed, along comes the biggest piece – actually importing the data. This is either done by someone within your organization or by an outside consultant. A variety of tools are used, some magic is performed and then you have a new system with data that looks familiar to you.

Last week was Dreamforce, Salesforce’s annual customer conference, which basically takes over the city of San Francisco for a week of keynotes, educational sessions and parties. One of the highlights of this year’s conference was a focus on women in the technology industry, capping a major effort within Salesforce itself to recognize the company can do better to ensure more parity between the genders in terms of pay, promotion and overall job satisfaction. Similar efforts are underway in different parts of the technology sector, and within the Salesforce ecosystem as well (the Girly-Geeks, now known as Women in Tech, and Girl Force being two good examples of the latter). These efforts are definitely praiseworthy and in need of all of our support. There is another area of diversity, however, that also needs focus from all of us, on a global basis, and that is racial diversity.
