JA Worldwide: From NGO Connect to the Nonprofit Success Pack

NGOC to NPSP Migration

From NGO Connect to the Nonprofit Success Pack

The Client

As one of the world’s largest youth-serving NGOs, JA Worldwide (JA) activates youth for the future of jobs. Through the delivery of cutting-edge, experiential learning in financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship, they create pathways for employability and job creation. Each year, JA’s network of over 465,000 volunteers serves more than 10 million students in over 100 countries.

Challenges

JA Worldwide was an early adopter of roundCorner’s NGO Connect, a managed fundraising package on the Salesforce platform. While NGO Connect provides a robust point solution for nonprofits, as JA Worldwide grew, the organization found that the software was not meeting the needs of their users. As a global organization, helping youth around the world, NGO Connect was a great fit for their business processes in 2013. After several years, and the subsequent release of the newly branded Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP), it was determined that NPSP may be a more robust option for their users.

The Solution

“When the decision was made at JA Worldwide to migrate from Salesforce NGO Connect to Salesforce NPSP, a diligent RFP process was put in place to find the ideal partner for the project. The partner we were seeking needed to be knowledgeable of the nonprofit sector, proficient in both the NGOC and NPSP platforms, and ideally, experienced in the conversion from NGOC to NPSP,” said Joseph Tortora, Senior Director – Global Operations for JA Worldwide and Erin Martin, Manager – Global Operations and technical services for JA Worldwide. “After completion of the extensive RFP process, it was determined that Cloud for Good could be the ideal partner JA Worldwide was searching for.”

JA Worldwide selected Cloud for Good to assist them with their migration from NGO Connect to the NPSP because they were seeking a trusted partner with a broad knowledge of the nonprofit sector, proven success with both the Salesforce platform and NPSP, and previous experience migrating from NGO Connect to NPSP.

NPSP has robust settings options that require complex configuration to drive organizational business processes. Cloud for Good assisted JA Worldwide by providing advice on fundraising best practices and translating their current business processes into the new platform.

Additionally, Cloud for Good set up a multi-lingual and multi-currency solution to support 35 international users. Volunteers for Salesforce, an AppExchange app, was also implemented for volunteer management. JA can track volunteers, the hours they have worked, all volunteer jobs, as well as shifts for specific jobs. Online registration pages were integrated with the website, so volunteers have more control over what jobs and shifts they prefer.

Results

“This provider assessment proved true as the Cloud for Good team assigned to the project was not only a pleasure to work with, but they were also very knowledgeable of the product and best practices for handling some of the more complicated issues JA Worldwide was confronted with daily,” said Joseph and Erin.

In addition, the establishment of better aligned business processes and the Lightning Experience interface has made NPSP the platform that JA Worldwide envisioned.

JA Worldwide now has a scalable Salesforce solution for constituent and volunteer management, donor engagement, along with customized reporting and dashboards, resulting in improved transparency and improved user adoption throughout the organization.

JA Worldwide implemented best practices to facilitate onboarding of additional offices into the system. Overall, Joseph and Erin explained, “the migration was completed within the timeframe and budget presented in the RFP and an overall success. JA Worldwide would be pleased to work again with Cloud for Good on any future Salesforce NPSP initiatives.”
