From Foundation to Future: How Colorado Christian University Unified Its Student Experience with Salesforce Education Cloud

When Colorado Christian University(CCU) set out to transform its Salesforce ecosystem, it chose Cloud for Good to partner for the journey. What followed was an engagement that consolidated isolated systems, simplified operations, and built the platform CCU needed to serve students the way its mission demands.

Key Takeaways

  • Colorado Christian University partnered with Cloud for Good to migrate two of three Salesforce orgs into a single Salesforce Education Cloud platform
  • Undergraduate admissions and student success data now live in one system, enabling faster and more coordinated student engagement
  • The CCU Academy team eliminated duplicate Salesforce licenses and aligned its communication strategy under one marketing platform
  • The Education Cloud foundation positions CCU for Data Cloud and Agentforce adoption as its technology roadmap advances

About Colorado Christian University

Colorado Christian University is a private Christian university in Lakewood, Colorado, serving 17,000+ students. Its mission is to provide Christ-centered higher education-transforming students to impact the world with grace and truth.

For Tyler Moody, Director of CRM Operations at CCU, technology exists in direct service of that mission. “Technology allows the individual to offload or automate the administrative tasks, so that the human can connect with the human,” he says. When the platforms meant to reduce overhead are themselves fragmented, they create the very burden they should solve. That was CCU before this engagement.

The Challenge: Three Systems, One University

“We had to use a spreadsheet or a Word doc to map out what the whole marketing communication strategy looked like,” says Tyler Moody.

For a university with one name and one mission, the technology told a different story.

CCU ran three separate Salesforce organizations in parallel: one for the College of Undergraduate Studies (CUS), one for the College of Adult and Graduate Studies (CAGS), and one for the Office of Student Success. Each org ran on legacy Salesforce EDA architecture and relied heavily on a third-party vendor for enrollment management. Each had its own data flows, its own integrations, and its own rhythm.

The cost of that fragmentation showed up across every team. Information about a student’s journey from applicant to enrollee to active student was split across systems that could not communicate in real time. When a student enrolled and later withdrew, getting that information back to the admissions team required manual reporting or cross-team coordination between separate orgs.

The burden was sharpest for CCU’s Academy team, which manages dual-credit programs with partner high schools. CCU Academy students hold a dual status: they are current CCU students earning college credit and prospective undergraduates at the same time. In the old architecture, that meant the CCU Academy team managed records across two separate orgs simultaneously, and held two sets of licenses to do it.

“It doubled our license cost within that academy team,” Moody explains. “It also made very disconnected communication and processes.”

Marketing compounded the challenge. CCU’s College of Undergraduate Studies used Account Engagement, while the student org used Marketing Cloud. The two platforms could not coordinate automatically, which meant unified outreach required manual workarounds across different systems, for every campaign, every cohort, every term.

CCU knew it needed to move toward Salesforce Education Cloud. What it needed was a partner who could help it decide how, and then build it the right way.

Finding the Right Partner

CCU arrived at this project having already paid the cost of choosing the wrong partner. Previous experiences with budget-first and first-time implementation firms had made clear what could not be repeated on a transformation of this scale.

It found Cloud for Good on its own. “Cloud for Good felt like more of a white-glove type treatment,” Moody says. “This is such a large, important project, and such a highly adopted tool at the university. I strongly recommended a partner that has done this before, has the depth of knowledge and skills, and the depth of bench to provide the right resources at the right time.”

As a dedicated higher education Salesforce partner and Education Cloud Design Partner, Cloud for Good brought 50+ completed Education Cloud migrations to the relationship, alongside deep familiarity with mission-driven institutions across the Council.

The Solution

Cloud for Good opened with in-depth discovery across CCU’s departments, engaging subject matter experts from every impacted team and translating institutional knowledge into a clear build plan. The result was a shared roadmap instead of a set of requirements.

Consolidating Admissions and Student Success

The largest and most foundational workstream brought CCU’s undergraduate admissions org and its student success org together into a single new Salesforce Education Cloud environment. Third-party vendor was retired in the process.

With admissions and student success data now in the same system, the coordination that previously required manual reporting or cross-org integration became immediate. When a student enrolls and later withdraws, the admissions team can see that in real time and re-engage. “It immediately eliminated a lot of time, a lot of overhead, and a lot of work on that particular cohort of students,” Moody says.

The build introduced native recruitment and admissions functionality: online applications built natively in Education Cloud, automated territory assignment for enrollment counselors, touchpoint tracking across every student interaction, and a redesigned applicant portal in Experience Cloud. Student success capabilities came with it: appointment scheduling, advisor assignment, student portal, accommodations tracking, and regulatory compliance through SARA process management.

Solving Academy Operations

For the Academy team, consolidation resolved the dual-license burden and brought coherence to a student journey that had been difficult to manage across separate orgs. Academy students can now be tracked within a single system. The team works alongside undergraduate admissions staff, following the full funnel from prospective academy student through enrollment, without toggling between orgs or reconciling fragmented data.

Cloud for Good also built a dedicated dual-credit portal for CCU’s partner high schools, giving school administrators and the Academy team a structured way to manage faculty qualifications, course approvals, and course confirmations. A process previously run through email and spreadsheets now lives within the platform.

Unifying the Marketing Voice

Account Engagement was retired as part of the migration. CCU’s marketing automation, previously split across two platforms that could not coordinate automatically, was consolidated into a single enterprise Marketing Cloud instance with dedicated business units for each school. Every email, every journey, and every touchpoint now reflects one university communicating with one voice.

Guiding the Integration Decision

During the build, CCU also needed to select and begin implementing an integration platform to connect Salesforce with its broader systems landscape. Cloud for Good provided an agnostic solution, and CCU partnered with MuleSoft. Rather than treating this as a separate engagement, Cloud for Good absorbed the MuleSoft implementation as a dedicated workstream within the existing project, keeping the go-live timeline intact.

Throughout the build, Cloud for Good kept CCU focused and on track. “Cloud for Good was excellent in hearing what we were saying, but then fine-tuning it and adjusting it to the best practices based on industry standards and Cloud for Good’s expertise,” Moody reflects.

Impact: What Changed

Impact outcomes from Colorado Christian University’s

CCU went live on Education Cloud in August 2026, on schedule and within budget. Two months on, the shift in operational clarity is already visible across teams.

From an IT perspective, the reduction in integration maintenance is immediate. Managing data and analytics from a single org rather than two means fewer moving parts, fewer timing dependencies, and less overhead for the team. The Academy team holds a single Salesforce license per team member. Marketing operates from one platform. The admissions team can see a student’s full journey, including what happens after enrollment, without requesting data from another system.

In a university where every hour redirected from administrative coordination is an hour available for student engagement, these gains reflect the mission in practice.

“The horizon is bright,” Moody says. “I already see the value and the vision here. Teams can see that we have the ability to work towards that vision now, a lot better than we had when we had multiple orgs.”

The Starting Line, Not the Finish Line

“This project isn’t the goal,” Moody says. “This project is the starting line.”

Three years ago, CCU began exploring Data Cloud. The central question was which Salesforce org to implement it in. The fragmented architecture made that question impossible to answer cleanly. Now, with a unified Education Cloud foundation in place, the path to Data Cloud and eventually Agentforce adoption is open.

Moody’s approach to AI reflects the same deliberate thinking that shaped this migration: start with the IT and admin team, build confidence in configuration and cost management, then expand to departments and ultimately to students. Build the foundation, develop the expertise, then scale it to the people it is meant to serve. “Slow is smooth, smooth is fast,” he says.

CCU is now in Managed Services with Cloud for Good, mapping the next chapter of the partnership.

The Cloud for Good Partnership

“Every time I interact with somebody from Cloud for Good, the expectations are there. I know what to expect because everybody within that company is the same. They’re kind, they’re caring, they’re patient, they’re understanding. That’s just something that you don’t see very often within organizations,” says Moody.

That consistency, from the first discovery session through go-live to the ongoing Managed Services relationship, is what CCU experienced throughout.
