Hi Judi,

Thanks very much for your thoughtful comment. You're absolutely right. Thankfully, we're just getting started:-) We'll introduce custom object support this quarter, which will allow for the configuration/customization you describe. I also hasten to add that we're doing it differently than anybody else. We're focused on keeping the app easy to use and intuitive while adding a series of powerful features over the next two months. Custom object support is one. Other notable upcoming features include contact sync and calendar sync. There will be a lot to love about Cirrus Insight for nonprofits and for-profits alike. Stay tuned! And email me if you'd like to be in the pilot group for any or all of the above. We'd love to get your feedback.

Hi Judi, thanks for the comment. I agree about the customization comment (not so much about cases, we have many clients who are using cases) and I believe that this is an issue not for nonprofit but for everyone with a customized salesforce instance. The good news are that I believe it is on their roadmap...

Thanks for pulling this together, Tal.

I recently evaluated Cirrus Insight and Appirio Cloud Factor in depth for our client-facing forum (I work on Convio/Blackbaud Common Ground, a Force.com fundraising/constituent management app for nonprofits).

Cirrus Insight is certainly easy to install and use, and it works with @gmail.com addresses since Cloud Factor needs to be installed through Google Marketplace. Cirrus Insight is set up for how private/for-profit organizations typically use Salesforce with little apparent options for customization/configuration.

I wish this post had been a little more nonprofit focused.

For example, nonprofits are probably more interested in donation history than open opportunities. Nonprofits may or may not be using cases (most I've spoken to/worked with don't). Its Create a Contact functionality can be tricky for organizations using the 1 to 1 account model. And there's no apparent support for Households in the starter pack, or as in Common Ground, to set a new contact as an Organization (Household is the typical default).

Could the Brandon be so kind as to elaborate on the app's use specifically in nonprofit environments? Thanks!

As far as I know, Salesforce does not charge fees for free applications. My only cost was to build it.
